Highly Unpaid President of Glaze21.org
Right Now...
We have just launched “The 21st Century Glaze Project” web site. After a year of collecting and testing glaze recipes from Artists and Schools throughout the U.S., Canada, Hungary and Italy our site is ready for you. Release ONE is modest. As everyone knows, it always takes longer to do something than expected. Rather than wait to complete the site we are sharing the first step with you.
It contains 325 recipes for glazes that include oxidation and reduction, high-fire, mid- fire and low-fire. The search tool allows you to customize your search to include glazes that meet your specific needs.
You may set criteria for:
- Material: glaze, slip, clay body, etc.
- Environment : Oxidation, Reduction, Salt, etc.
- Firing Range: Cone 022 thru Cone 14
- Color: Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, etc.
- Opacity: Transparent, Translucent, Semi Opaque, etc
- Surface: Matte, Semi-Matte, Gloss, etc.
Once you have found a recipe, the batch calculator will print a batch-compounding sheet for the number of grams that you plan to make.
The Next Step...
This, the site will have a number of additional features soon.
We are working on:
- An on-line library of ceramics literature
Paragon Kilns has contributed a wealth of information - Information about commercial glazes
- Surface treatments including stamps, decals, tools and sprigs
- A full function Forum for ceramic artists
- School programs, shows, internships and residencies
- Unity formula information using John Hesselbreth’s GlazeMaster® software
Call For Your Participation and Support...
We need your help.
So far, Glaze21 has been a labor of love with nonexistent funds. We would like to pay our glaze testers, web programmers and clerical volunteers. If you and others find the web site useful send a small donation we will be able to add a much more to the web site in a shorter period of time.
Please contact me at pmiller@glaze21.org and find out how to contribute money or some of your time.
